What did you do this summer? While you were out at the beach, a number of eighth grade Sacred Heart students took on a challenge and made a big difference. This challenge was given to them by the language arts teacher, Mrs. Nordlie, based on the television series, "Oprah's Big Give". They were given one dollar and one summer to make a difference in the world. They helped to raise money or donated their time to a cause.
The eighth grade students went out of their way to help others this summer. They sold candy bars, painted fences, and even volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House. They raised money for an animal shelter, a teenager with cancer, volunteered at a local camp, and even helped a child hear for the fist time in his life.
The results of these projects were amazing. The students were able to raise a total sum of over $1600 dollars. They were able to prove that one person can make a difference in this world. As Mahatma Gandhi said, " You must be the change you wish to see in the world."
