Monarch Program

Dear Parents and Friends,

Once again, the students of Sacred Heart Parish School have the privilage of partnering with Monarch School.  Monarch School is a school for homeless children in downtown San Diego that serves approximately 150 students in grades 3-12.  The school is part of the San Diego City School system, and because of the needs of the students, free breakfasts, lunches, laundry facilities, and extra tutoring are available, but the school cannot provide the little extras that would help to make a homeless kid feel like a” regular” kid. That’s where Sacred Heart steps in.  According to Monarch Ambassador Alex Larson, “We can grow spiritually, morally, and emotionally when we imitate Christ.  We can grow as a person when we put the needs of others before ours.”

We are beginning our third year of collaboration with Monarch School with the announcement of our new ambassadors: In grade 6: Christina Villanueva, Mary Roberts, and Gabrielle Hadzicki. In grade 7: Catherine Siefert, Kevin Bitar, Kristina Kunes, Ninett Rodriquez, Tyler Hadzicki and Javier Gomez.  In grade 8: Alexis Shultz, Alex Larson and, Abelardo Corral.

Our first collection will begin Monday, October 20th.  We are looking for all types, styles, and sizes of underwear, camisoles, boxers and/or briefs for both boys and girls. Our “Butterfly Bins” are located at the top of the stairs and by the front office.  Please help. As Monarch Ambassador Kevin Bitar said, “I hope to help kids who are less fortunate than I have a better life.”   Thank you in advance for all you do to help.
