Junior High Homework Policy and Rules Dear Parents, We
are excited to begin this new school year with your child! This year promises to be an exciting
one, with Mrs. Twomey teaching math and science, Mrs. Bolanos (Miss Lulu)
teaching religion and social studies, and Mrs. Nordlie teaching language arts. At
the beginning of each successful school, rules and policies must be discussed
and reviewed. So that we can begin the true job of education as close as
possible to the start of school on Aug 31 here is some important information to
review. Homework is given to reinforce what
has been learned in class, extend and generalize concepts, preview new
material, teach responsibility, and help students develop good study
skills. It is a valuable aid in
helping students make the most of their educational experience. It also gives parents insight into the
curriculum and a first hand look at his child’s work ethic. For
these reasons, students will be assigned homework Monday-Thursday, with some
assignments necessary on the weekends.
Homework should be completed in 90-120 minutes. Additional time should be allotted for
long term projects as well as studying for tests. (Students will have at least one week’s notice before tests
to allow ample time for preparation.) We
request that you make homework a top priority at home. Parents, please provide necessary
supplies and quiet environment, set a daily homework/study time, and give
praise and support. Assist your
student but in no case do the assignment for him. Here is his chance for him to show us what he does and
doesn’t know, and where we can assist him. Now
on to Rules for
Junior High. 1. SHHHH...When a teacher is talking or another student is
speaking, there is silence. This
would also include silence in the halls and stairway, at church or assemblies. 2. Timeliness...Both your body and your work need to be on
class on time. Excessive tardiness
is rewarded with detention, and a zero is the grade for late work . 3. Supplies....Whether it’s a pen and paper, books for the next
class, P.E. uniform, or homework, make sure you’ve got it. There is an immediate detention for
failure to suit up, or return to school uniform, on P.E. days. 4. Neatness....This refers to your work, the classroom, and
your uniform. Watch the hemlines,
make sure a belt is worn, and no jewelry other than a religious necklace on a
simple chain. Uniform violations do exist. 5. Encourage, don’t discourage...In our classroom, as in all of
Sacred Heart, we work together as a team to bolster and support, not tear down. The
benefits are legion. Among them
would be a happy student in a
productive and nurturing classroom, a happy teacher (not to be quickly
dismissed!), occasional free time, and FOOD! However
there are consequences for choosing to ignore a rule, or purposely disobeying
one. A student will be warned
verbally for the first infraction, but the second reminder will earn a
check. Five checks within a week’s
time will earn a detention ON THAT DAY from 2:45-3:00. After three detentions in a quarter,
parents will be notified for a conference. The number of checks amassed in a quarter will determine the
behavior grade for that quarter.
Grades will be determined on a percentage basis: 0-4,
5= A- 6-12
= B 13-25 = C 26-35 = D more
than 35 checks Please
review this information with your child and return the attached sheet. We look forward to a great year! Mrs. Nordlie Mrs. Bolanos (Miss Lulu) Mrs. Twomey
